The European Union has warned Iceland and Greenland of sanctions unless the two states rescind decisions to increase their mackerel quotas, reports iNews.
The news follows Iceland's voicing of plans to grow its share of the mackerel catch by 30 percent to 140,240 metric tons, while Greenland intends to increase its share by 18 percent to 70,411 metric tons.
Unless Iceland and Greenland reverse their decisions, the European Parliament's Fisheries Committee will take action on the issue in September.
Scotland is in a battle with Iceland and Greenland over the quotas, especially as Brexit looms, making Scotland an independent coastal state.
