Silver Bay Seafoods' new processing plant in False Pass, Alaska, started production this month, the company told IntraFish, another step in the fast-moving firm's expansion.
The new facility, which is geared primarily toward producing sockeye in Alaska’s Eastern Aleutian Islands, is part of the company's move to diversify into other species and provide year-round opportunities for its Alaska processing facilities.
"We built the new False Pass plant in a favorable geographic location accessible to harvesters participating in salmon and groundfish fisheries in the Gulf of Alaska and Bering Sea," Abby Frederick, a special assistant with Silver Bay, told IntraFish.
