The mission of the
Sustainable Fisheries Partnership (SFP) is to maintain healthy ocean
ecosystems, enhance fishing livelihoods, and secure food supplies. SFP improves
access to information to guide responsible seafood sourcing, and enhances the
ability of seafood companies and partners to influence government fisheries
policies and management practices to improve fisheries. SFP now advises more retailers in North
America and the UK than any other NGO worldwide, has staff in over 15 countries
and projects in over 25.
SFP works to
improve fisheries through Fisheries Improvement Projects (FIPs) and Aquaculture
Improvement Projects (AIPs).
A FIP or
AIP is a collaboration between retailers, their suppliers, and NGO advisors
that aims to influence government policies and management practices and improve
marine conservation and fish farming practices and their sustainability. More details can be found on www.sustainablefish.org.
