Labeyrie invests €4 million in salmon unit

Top exec calls it the ‘finest salmon cutting workshop’ in the world.

French salmon smoker and processor Labeyrie unveiled its new €4 million ($4.8 million) salmon cutting opeartion on Friday at its factory at Saint-Geours-de-Maremne, reports Sudouest.

"It is the finest salmon cutting workshop in the world," said Jacques Trottier, the director general of Labeyrie.

The new unit will allow the company to consolidate its market share in France, where it has 25 percent of the premium segment, but also to develop its exports elsewhere in Europe, the Middle East and the Far East.

The salmon factory is now a total 7,000 square meters in size and employs 250 people and 700 in high season.
