University seeks design for new tilapia filleting machine

India looks to scale up country's tilapia production.

India's Tamil Nadu Fisheries University (TNFU) is using its Innovation Challenge Contest 2017 to find the perfect design for a new tilapia filleting machine.

The Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) is looking to scale up exports of tilapia.

The university has invited students from fisheries and engineering colleges to submit their concept before Oct. 20.

The announcement coincides with the international workshop on ‘Tilapia - the future fish,’ held recently at Institute of Post-Graduation Studies, Padur, Chennai.

The workshop covered various aspects including state of industry and challenges, new frontiers in tilapia aquaculture; production, health and environment; and performance feeds and cost efficiency.
