Job losses expected after fire at Faroese fish processing plant

Several people were evacuated from the plant and surrounding buildings.

A major fire occurred at a fish factory in the Faroe Islands, and several were evacuated, reports Knr.gl.

The fire occurred at a factory in the city of Tvoroyri on the southernmost island Suduroy on June 9, but the cause of the fire is still unknown.

People from a nearby school were also evacuated and patients in a hospital next to the plant were moved to a safe area within the hospital.

A ship from the Faroese maritime authority helped in extinguishing the fire, which was reported at about 10:00 am local time.

It is expected that several jobs will be lost at the site on the back of the fire.
