Salmon suppliers to the US market are hopeful prices have hit the bottom and are starting to rise again after sinking in the wake of the arrival of increased quantities of fresh sockeye salmon on supermarket shelves.

In recent days, spot market prices for D-Trim salmon (FOB Miami) have been in a range between $3.50-$3.70 (€2.97-3.14), providing little in the way of cheer for Chile's suppliers.

"Prices are painfully low," Sebastian Goycoolea, CEO of Chilean salmon supplier BluGlacier, told IntraFish.
