IntraFish Price Tracker week 30: Alaskan salmon prices skyrocket

Shrimp and tilapia remained stable.

Frozen tilapia still unchanged

The price of tilapia fillets from China size 5-7lb, 3-5lb and 7-9lb did not change and were $2.15 (€1.88), $1.95 (€1.70) and $2.25 (€2) per pound, respectively, at the NY frozen auction in week 29.

Shrimp prices stay stable

Shrimp prices followed by IntraFish on the New York Frozen Auction remained flat in the week ending July 21.

Indonesian vannamei prices were $5.20 (€4.60) per pound for sizes 26/30, and at $4.65 (€4.10) per pound for sizes 31/40.

White farmed shrimp from India sold at $6 (€5.30) per pound for sizes 16/20; $5.25 (€4.58) per pound for sizes 21/25; and $4.75 (€4.20) per pound for sizes 26/30. 

Thailand white shrimp, tail-on was sold at $4.90 (€4.30) per pound for sizes 31/35 and $4.85 (€4.30) per pound for sizes 36/40.

Prices of white shrimp from Ecuador were $4.40 (€3.90) for sizes 31/35, $4.20 (€3.70) for sizes 36/40 and $4.05 (€3.60) for sizes 41/50.

Nasdaq: salmon prices continue slide in week 28

Average Norwegian farmed salmon prices dropped once again in week 28 according to the latest figures from Nasdaq.

During the week, prices were down by more than 4 percent, or by NOK 2.66 (€0.28/$0.33) per kilo compared with the week prior, to hit NOK 61.63 (€6.60/$7.60) per kilo on average, said the figures.

The average prices in week 28 were also down by NOK 6.29 (€0.67/$0.78) per kilo or 9.26 percent compared with a month ago and by NOK 3.40 (€0.36/$0.42) per kilo or 5.23 percent compared with 12 weeks ago, said Nasdaq.

Norwegian salmon prices recover as supply tightens

Norwegian salmon prices are recovering from the previous week's drop, and are up by NOK 3 (€0.32/$0.37) to NOK 5 (€0.53/$0.61) per kilo following the sharp fall in prices.

IntraFish talked to five players in the industry on Friday, and according to the sources, estimated average prices for this week will be NOK 60 (€6.40/$7.30) per kilo.

The average price week before (week 27) ended at NOK 65.38 (€7/$8) (FCA Oslo).

One source believes that the price in Oslo next week (week 29) will return to around NOK 65 due to the holiday season, in which many processing plants are closed and supply drops.

Chilean salmon prices into US continue to fluctuate

Prices for Chilean salmon into Brazil and Japan stayed stable in week 28, while prices into the US continued to fall slightly, according to the latest figures from DataSalmon.

Prices for average D trim wholesale Chilean salmon into the US market fell $0.05 (€0.04) to $5.48 (€4.74) per pound during the week, continuing its slight fluctuations over the past few weeks.

Alaska fishermen fetching high dock prices for salmon this year

Dock prices are up across the board in Alaska for salmon this year.

Trident Seafoods, Icicle Seafoods, and at least one Togiak district buyer posted a $1 (€0.87) per pound base price Sunday for Bristol Bay sockeye, up $0.25 (€0.22) from last season.
