The genesis of the ongoing US retail seafood sales slump can be traced back to the disruption caused by the COVID pandemic more than three years ago.

As everyone knows, when COVID hit in March of 2020, both the retail and foodservice sectors were turned upside down. Restaurants were largely forced to close or resort to takeout-only service for much of 2020 and into 2021, virtually eliminating a major seafood sales channel.
