A Florida firm accused of substituting Chilean fish for Scottish salmon is claiming a customer was responsible for the improper labeling of Chilean salmon as "Product of Scotland," that led to conviction by a US court.

A US district judge on Wednesday sentenced UpRiver Aquaculture, also known as MKG Provisions, to three years of probation and a $50,000 (€43,681) fine for falsely labeling 286 cases of Chilean farmed salmon as a product of Scotland in 2012, in violation of the Lacey Act.
