Mediation is scheduled to begin Monday in Seattle to settle a dispute over who can share the Marine Stewardship Council’s (MSC) Alaska Salmon certification, sources told IntraFish on Friday.

The mediation will be led by Seattle attorney Lou Peterson of the law firm Hillis Clark Martin & Peterson.

The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) on May 19 offered to mediate a dispute surrounding the sharing of its certificate for the Alaska salmon fishery.

In July, a group of Alaska salmon processors led by Trident Seafoods and representing the majority of the state's production, announced it was reversing a 2012 decision to part ways with the MSC, and would enter discussions with the Alaska Salmon Processors Association (ASPA), the current holder of the certificate, about rejoining the latter's MSC client group.
