Exports of US seafood fell 10 percent through the first eight months of the year, led by sharp drops in Alaska pollock exports.

Several key species saw significant jumps, despite a strong US dollar posing challenges for exporters.

Salmon exports jumped 8.4 percent by volume, led by canned and frozen sockeye, to reach 141,931 metric tons worth $595.8 million.

Exports of US-caught shrimp, meanwhile, rose 75 percent to 13,523 metric tons worth $139.8 million as demand picked up for warmwater peeled product in particular.
