Parlevliet & Van der Plas to acquire French tuna group

Dutch fisheries giant Parlevliet & Van der Plas (P&P) is nearing a deal to acquire Compagnie Française du Thon (CFTO), one of France's largest fishing groups, according to Torben Foss, director at PriceWaterhouseCoopers Seafood, a key advisor on the deal.

The two privately held groups entered into discussions in the middle of last year, Foss told IntraFish. Those talks, which would give P&P a majority share of the company, are now exclusive.

P&P confirmed the talks in a statement published on its website, saying the acquisition "will bring together two of Europe’s flagship fishing companies."
