End of protests in Chiloe

Chile’s government and the fishermen protesting in Chiloe reached an agreement after three weeks of demonstrations in the region.

According to Chile’s Ministry of Economy, fishermen in the locality of Ancud, the last region to drop protests, reached an agreement with Chile’s officials, the ministry announced in its twitter account.

“NOW, Ancud fishermen reach agreement with government and demonstrations stop in Chiloe,” read the tweet from the Ministry’s official account.

Although authorities reached a deal with some of the striking localities on May 16, the towns of Quellon Quemchi and Ancud continued to protest, being the latter the last community to drop demonstrations four days later.

"Unfortunately, these are key localities for the salmon industry," a spokesperson for SalmonChile told IntraFish.
