Webjorn Barstad, CEO of Norwegian whitefish supplier Havfisk, is estimating significantly lower cod quotas in Norwegian waters in the coming year.

“We haven’t had any indications on quota levels for 2017, but for cod we still think they’ll most likely drop by 10 percent,” he said said during the company’s quarterly presentation held in Oslo last week.

The quota panel will present its recommendations in June.

“The situation for quotas is generally favorable right now," Barstad said. "From a historical perspective the quotas are relatively high, for both cod and haddock.
