The Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) on Tuesday announced the Bristol Bay red king crab would kick off Oct. 15 with a total allowable catch (TAC) of 9.974 million pounds -- nearly the exact level regulators set for last season.

Of the TAC, the individual fishing quota (IFQ) holders will harvest 8.976 million pounds, while the Community Development Quota (CDQ) is allocated at 997,400 pounds.
