Although this year the Pacific cod market is feeling downward pressure from smaller fillet sizes, competition from Atlantic cod and other factors, the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute (ASMI) has a lineup of upcoming events to feature Pacific cod domestically and internationally.

Evan Blankenship, a Pacific cod pot fisherman in the Cook Inlet fishery said prices have been low, around $0.20 to $0.35 (€0.18 - 0.31) per pound, and told IntraFish that getting the prices up is "a question of marketing."

ASMI will start promoting Pacific cod on May 1 at California-based restaurant chain Sharky’s Woodfired Mexican Grill and its upcoming marketing lineup for the fish also includes working with Macy’s Department Store restaurants, Florida restaurant chain Duffy’s Sports Grill and Shari’s Restaurants, the largest full-service chain based in the Pacific northwest.
