Finnish wholesaler gets MSC, ASC seal of approval

Kespro's 25,000 customers are now eligible to display the labels.
Finnish foodservice wholesaler Kespro has been granted Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) and Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) Chain of Custody certification for all phases of its fish and shellfish supply chain, meaning Kespro and its certified customer restaurants can use MSC and ASC eco-labeling in their marketing.
In line with its parent company Kesko Group's fish and shellfish statement, Kespro favors sustainable fish stocks and MSC-certified suppliers when making decisions on its selections.
Kespro is the first Finnish horeca wholesaler to have received the MSC and ASC Chain of Custody certificate.
Kespro has around 25,000 customers, including restaurants, hotels and public kitchens.
"When the entire supply chain has been certified, our certified customer restaurants can use MSC and ASC ecolabeling on their menus and marketing. This makes it easier for people eating there to choose sustainably caught fish, marked with the MSC and ASC logo," said Mia Haavisto, quality manager at Kespro.
Kespro has nearly 250 certified fish products in its selection.
