GAA launches fund to increase certified seafood production

It will aim support projects that make "an enduring difference."

The Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA) announced Monday that it is" launching an initiative to finance a range of projects to further responsible aquaculture and ultimately increase the availability of certified seafood production worldwide."

GAA Executive Director Wally Stevens announced the fund at the SeaWeb Seafood Summit in New Orleans, where he explained that the yet-to-be-named fund will begin with $250,000 to support improvement projects that aim to "make an enduring and tangible difference" in the global aquaculture industry. The alliance is inviting stakeholders to co-finance projects, as well.

The fund will be managed by GAA Development Director Iain Shone, Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) Standards Coordinator Dan Lee and New England Aquarium aquaculture project lead Matt Thompson.
