US wild shrimp group applauds Trump's 'Buy America' program

'Any loopholes in the law that benefit foreign producers need to be closed,' says the group.

American Shrimp Processor Association (ASPA) Executive Director David Veal said Friday the group applauded President Donald Trump's executive order Tuesday " to strengthen our government’s Buy America program will create new jobs in the Gulf shrimp communities of Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, and across the country."

"We deserve a comprehensive review of the programs in place at each of our agencies to ensure that domestic industries obtain the maximum positive economic from 'Buy American' programs," Veal said.

"Any loopholes in the law that benefit foreign producers need to be closed. Any provisions which impede US producers need to be changed."

Earlier this month, Trump signed a presidential executive order establishing enhanced collection and enforcement of antidumping and countervailing duties and violations of trade and customs laws, which ASPA praised as a move that will help "level the playing field."
