McDonald's, MSC partner on kids sustainable fishing card game

Restaurant chain uses initiative as part of its sustainability strategy.

Fast-food giant McDonald’s, in partnership with the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), has created “Reel It In!” – a card game that teaches children the importance of sustainable fishing.

“Reel It In!” puts a cooperative spin on the classic card game “Go Fish” while educating players about sustainable fishing practices, the restaurant company said.

In the game, players must work together to collect sets of Fish Cards. However, if the players use the “go fish” option too many times, they may lose by drawing too many Keep Oceans Healthy Cards from the supply.

In 2011 and 2013, McDonald’s Europe and McDonald’s USA, respectively, elected to certify their more than 20,000 combined restaurants to the MSC Chain of Custody traceability standard. Today all of the Filet-O-Fish portions served in Europe, the United States, Canada and Brazil bear the MSC certified label.
