In a letter inviting Canadian companies to attend, Michael Evans, president of Alibaba Group, singled out seafood as one product increasingly in demand by Chinese consumers, specifically mentioning Canadian seafood company Clearwater.

"You’ll hear practical stories from brands already doing business with China and inspiring tales like that of Clearwater, the Nova Scotia-based seafood distributor that sold 90,000 lobsters to Chinese consumers on our platform in a single day during one of Alibaba’s big annual promotions.," said Evans, who grew up in Toronto.

"Clearwater’s story shows the vast potential for business success in tapping China’s middle class consumers."

The event is scheduled for Sept.25 at the Enercare Centre in Toronto.
