Santa Monica, Bristol Seafood first to supply Fair Trade scallops

First shipments to Albertson's, Vons grocery markets start in April.
California-based Santa Monica Seafood CEO Roger O’Brien said Thursday it is ready to distribute its private-labeled Fair Trade-certified sea scallops, the result of six months of working closely with Bristol Seafood, the company's primary scallop producer and 2016 Vendor of the Year.
“We are proud to be the first seafood distributor to offer a Fair Trade Certified scallop to our retail customers in the western US," said O'Brien.
"We have worked closely with the quality-conscious seafood buyers at Albertson's and Vons grocery markets in southern California to begin shipments to them no later than April, and we will be offering these to our other grocery customers as well." In addition, it will be on Hannaford’s shelves starting in April.
The scallops are wild-caught, sustainable and domestically produced using a traceability system which is subject to independent, third-party auditing.
