Seattle-based Trident Seafoods, a vertically-integrated harvester, processor and marketer of Alaska seafood, is the largest seafood company in the Americas.
Founded in 1973 with one crab harvester and processor by Alaska king crab fishermen Chuck Bundrant, Kaare Ness and Mike Jacobson, the company now is privately held by the Bundrant family, with son Joe at the helm.
Trident’s main species include Atlantic, chum, king, pink and sockeye salmon, Pacific cod, Pacific halibut, Alaska pollock, flounder, sole, tilapia and surimi seafood. The company sells finished products under 11 brand names, including Trident, Portlock, Captain Jac and Louis Kemp.
In 2013, the company added a $41 million (€35.9 million) seafood processing plant in Carrollton, Georgia as a way to expand its East Coast operations.
Trident cut the ribbon and officially opened its new plant on the east coast in July 2015.
Chuck Bundrant said his company had researched nearly 100 locations for its new facility prior to picking Carrollton, which is located about 50 miles east of Atlanta.
Also in July, the company began operating its $22 million (€19.7 million) fishmeal and fish oil production facility in Bristol Bay at full capacity.
Earlier in the year, the company inked an exclusive supply arrangement with Walmart to supply 14 products, five under a newly created brand.
In late 2014, the company's acquired Westward Seafood's Western Alaska Fisheries in Kodiak, Alaska.
In April 2016, Trident Seafoods announced its entrance into the value-added seafood processing business in Germany with the acquisition of Pickenpack Vertriebs (PPV) and The Seafood Traders (TST) processing facility in Riepe, Germany.
“The company we acquired today has long been a major user and marketer of single-frozen wild Alaska pollock, and this is a logical fit for us,” said Joe Bundrant, CEO of Seattle-based Trident Seafoods.
“The opportunity to move closer to the European market is one we have dreamt about for a long time, and we take great pride in this accomplishment,” Bundrant said.
