The process for regaining Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification for Norway's inshore cod fishery moved another step forward last week with the release of a public comment draft report (PCDR).

The ultimate hope is that the process will result in the fishery regaining the MSC blue eco-label, which can be a critical selling factor for retailers and foodservice buyers and suppliers in Europe and elsewhere.

Although the process is delayed from the conformity assessment body DNV's original estimated timeline of recertification in June, the group applying for the recertification told IntraFish the latest development represents "another milestone" in the two years since the fishery lost its eco-seal.
