It has been a season of ups and down for Bristol Bay fishermen this summer, who have dealt with both low base prices and unusual fishing conditions.

On July 30, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) posted its final daily fish count of the 2023 season in Bristol Bay, putting the total catch for all fishing districts at nearly 39 million.

"I think everybody feels like it was an odd season," Tim Sands, a longtime area biologist for ADF&G who monitors Bristol Bay's west side, told IntraFish.
