Icelandic fishing giant Samherji is merging two of its fishing and processing subsidiaries in a bid to "simplify" operations.

The group's processing subsidiary Utgerdarfelag Akureyringa (UA), based in Akureyri, will merge into Samherji Iceland (Samherja Islandi).

Samherji Iceland operates six vessels -- three ice fishing vessels, a freezer trawler and two pelagic vessels -- and also has a processing facility in Dalvik.

"It has been decided to simplify the operations of Samherji's subsidiaries in fishing and processing, by combining their operations on one ID number," said the group.
