The UK's fishing fleet suffered another challenging year in 2022, seeing profit dragged down by a 75 percent surge in fuel costs, despite higher fish prices bolstering revenue.

While fuel prices had come down in recent months, the ongoing cost-of-living crisis and inflation continues to batter the sector, according to Seafish, a UK seafood industry trade group.

When comparing data with the two previous years, the 2022 preliminary estimates paint a picture of the performance of the fleet in the post-pandemic landscape, with many of those surveyed reporting that "financial struggles remain a major concern."
