Donegal gets lion's share of Ireland's mackerel quota

The Killybegs-based mackerel sector will catch 87% of the Irish quota.

The Donegal mackerel fleet will land 87 percent of the 69,143 metric-ton mackerel quota agreed for Ireland in London on Wednesday, reports Highland Radio.

The Killybegs-based mackerel sector will catch approximately €61 million ($72.4 million) worth of mackerel, while Ireland’s total catch in 2018 will be worth around €70 million ($83 million).

“This is good news for the fishing fleet along the west coast and which fishes out of Killybegs,” said Joe McHugh, Donegal Minister.
