Conference brings commitment across supply chain on fisheries management

International organizations on the seafood supply chain step forward in collaboration towards sustainability.

The Our Ocean conference held in Malta this week saw major fishing companies, retailers and other organizations in the seafood industry commit to improve sustainable management of marine resources.

In addition, the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) brought together 27 companies joint under the 2020 Leaders for a Living Ocean initiative, all of them committing to producing and selling MSC-certified products.

“Business leadership and engagement is fundamental to addressing the global challenges of unsustainable and illegal fishing,” said Rupert Howes, MSC chief executive.

“As these impressive commitments show, sustainability is at the heart of these forward-thinking businesses.”
