Clearwater purchases Scottish crabber

The move pushes the company further to being vertically integrated in Scotland.

Canadian seafood giant Clearwater Seafoods acquired the Scottish crabber Heather K for an undisclosed amount, reports Herald Business.

“It was nominal (amount) relative to our total capital expenditures,” Ian Smith, chief executive officer of Clearwater Seafoods, said. “What is important about that is that it was the beginning of our vertical integration in Scotland.”

With its purchase of the Scottish crabber, Clearwater Seafoods expects to increase landings in Scotland by 400 metric tons.

The company hopes to leverage its ownership of that Scottish vessel to get other fishing operations in a bid to bring their catches to Clearwater Seafoods facilities.
