Peru to announce first-season anchovy quota this week

The TAC will depend on the biomass assessment, conducted last week.

Peru’s ministry of production (Produce) will announce the quota for the first anchovy season for the north-central area of the country this week, Bruno Giuffra, head of Produce, said Sunday.

The exploratory cruise sent by the Instituto del Mar de Peru (Imarpe) finished its biomass assessment along the coast between Tucmbes and Tacna last week, and the quota will depend on the results of the trip.

“The cruise has already come back and now they’re processing data,” said Giuffra.

“With this information, we will quantify the biomass and the parameters that are to be followed to respect a sustainable fishing activity; we will determine the quota based on this.”
