Southwind acquires two seafood firms

Companies will be merged into Southwind.

California-based Southwind Foods, which distributes products under the Great American Seafood brand among others, is acquiring Galaxy Foods, Inc. and Equator, Inc.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The deal is expected to close in early July and will result in Galaxy Foods and Equator, both located in San Pedro, California, merging into Southwind Foods operations in Carson, California.

Galaxy Foods and Equator are US-owned companies that have supplied seafood related products to grocery chains for more than 20 years.

“We are very excited about this opportunity to combine resources with these two outstanding companies," said Buddy Galletti, CEO of Southwind Foods.

"Our companies share a passion for what we do and a commitment to always strive to provide the highest levels of quality products and customer service in our industry. We think this merger will result in additional distribution channels for us as well as an opportunity to collaborate with the excellent management teams at Galaxy and Equator about exciting new ideas for our companies," he said.

“Southwind is a leader in our industry, and we are excited to have this opportunity to combine our companies with them as we continue our commitment to our customers to offer the very best in products and services,” said Joseph Galletti, president of Galaxy Foods.
