Norway Royal Salmon (NRS) and Aker Group's new offshore salmon farming plans pose some major challenges, but the group has invested plenty of time, research and money into making them a success.
NRS Marketing Director Klaus Hattlebrekke said the farms, based of the coast of Finnmark in northern Norway, are ready to take on 15-meter-high waves, ice and strong currents -- though there will be a learning curve.
"But if we want the [salmon] industry to grow, we have to find new places to farm," he said.
