During a recent trip to Chile, IntraFish had the chance to visit Camanchaca's hatchery in Petrohue, which was fully reconstructed after suffering the impact of the Calbuco volcano eruption on April 22 last year.

More than 600 kilos of volcanic ash and sand per square meter fell on the facilities during the natural disaster, resulting in the loss of more than 50 percent of the site's fish.

"At first we thought there was nothing left, we thought all the fish had died, it was devastating," Nelson Leon, deputy manager of Camanchaca's fresh water division, told IntraFish.

"Then
