Skretting's new feed formula to boost shrimp health

Feed may offer shrimp farmers alternative to antibiotics.

Feed manufacturer Skretting said earlier this week its R&D found "shrimp farmers do not have to rely on antibiotics and risk building up AMR (antimicrobial resistance) in their stocks,” said Charles McGurk, manager of Fish & Shrimp Health at Skretting Aquaculture Research Centre (ARC).

In recent years, shrimp farmers using antibiotics created an AMR health challenge in shrimp stock, leaving shrimp vulnerable to a range of infections.

The company said it found a balanced combination of novel functional ingredients in shrimp feed, which will "enable shrimp farmers to take proactive steps that will support the primary defences of their stocks against environmental threats, while also playing their part in addressing the AMR challenge."
