Evonik earns approval to sell hydrogen peroxide product for salmon lice

Company gets pharmaceutical approval for use in the United Kingdom, Norway and Iceland.

Nutritional company Evonik has been granted marketing authorization for its hydrogen peroxide sea lice product -- Asperix Vet -- in the United Kingdom, Norway and Iceland.

According to Evonik, Asperix Vet is an “environmentally benign” product to fight against sea lice and for use in salmon aquaculture in northern Europe.

The product is manufactured at Evonik’s production site in Antwerp, Belgium. The site obtained the relevant manufacturing authorization and the GMP license at the end of 2016.

Evonik distributes the product exclusively in the above countries via its sales partner Helm Skandinavien, who will act as pharmaceutical wholesaler.

Hydrogen peroxide is used successfully as a parasiticide against sea lice in salmon farming.

Evonik is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of hydrogen peroxide with 13 production sites worldwide and an annual capacity of approximately 950,000 metric tons.
