Cermaq Norway touts progress in fight against sea lice

The need for delousing treatment in Finnmark has gone down significantly since November last year.

Mitsubishi-owned Norwegian salmon farmer Cermaq said it is making progress in the fight against salmon sea lice in Finnmark, Norway.

Due to a "proactive strategy to keep lice levels low and a good work relationship with the other farming companies in the area," Cermaq Norway hasn't used any delousing treatment since November, it said.

"Seven months without the use of delousing agents at all is amazing and shows that our strategy is working," said Karl Fredrik Ottem, chief of fish health at Cermaq.

The company predicts "favorable" conditions in Finnmark, suggesting it might not need any sea lice treatment at all in the future.
