Greens cast no confidence motion over government handling of Australian aquaculture industry

Party said the Liberals have overseen an "environmental disaster".

Australia's Green Party has cast a no-confidence motion against Primary Industries Minister Jeremy Rockliff’s handling of fish farming, reports The Mercury.

Greens Leader Cassy O’Connor said the Liberals had overseen an environmental disaster caused by fish farming in Macquarie Harbour, yet failed to adequately regulate the industry and championed its expansion onto the East Coast.

O’Connor said the policy announced last week to ban fish farming in the Mercury Passage was the last straw.

Tassal has already promised its Okehampton Bay fish farm at Triabunna will not extend into the Mercury Passage which runs between the East Coast and Maria Island.
