Peru's aquaculture activity up 20%

Aquaculture output reached 115,271 metric tons in 2014.

Peru’s aquaculture activity grows around 20 percent every year, which positions it among the fastest-growing countries in the sector in South America, said Hector Soldi, Peru’s vice minister of fisheries and aquaculture

“Our country is an important player in the provision of goods for the global aquaculture industry,” Soldi said.

“We have increased production from 6,596 metric tons in the year 2000 to 115,271 metric tons in 2014,” Soldi said during the annual conference of the Latin American and Caribean speech (LACQUA) of the World Aquaculture Society.
